In this episode, Cameron and Ray start with Lorenzo de’ Medici’s death, political instability in Florence, Michelangelo’s scramble for patronage, his anatomical research (complete with cadavers), the wooden crucifix he carved for Santo Spirito, the lost Hercules, and his move to Bologna where he sculpted the astonishing kneeling angel. Along the way they detour into Kiss, roller-skating rinks of the 1980s, Soft Cell, Humpty Hump’s fake nose, Tupac’s early career, and Jesus’ hypothetical manscaping habits. It’s irreverent, loose, and deeply nerdy in exactly the way this series always aims to be.
